Will this count as another 200 GB and now you are paying 0.5 cents times 400 GB?! Or since the 2 versions are almost identical, except maybe few files changed (say 100 MB), only the total initial data that is counting (i.e: 200 GB)? Or it is now 200.10 GB because of the double 100 MB files? Tomorrow there is another version that ARQ will create. I know that the following is probably a dumb question, but how exactly is ARQ versioning counting towards your bill?
Both Arq and Duplicacy allow you to backup to local drives (either directly attached or NAS), and cloud storage. Whichever solution you choose, I highly recommend using local storage as well. For context, one of my backups is 1.3TB, and each hourly backup (checks all the files to see if anything changed) only takes 5 seconds.ĭuplicacy is a bit more involved to setup, so I currently only recommend it for more technical users. I can de-select directories that have frequently changing large files where I do not need to keep old versions, like Android phone images or VMs, for my cloud backups. I like Arq because I can use one program to manage my local and cloud backups. I tried Backblaze (the service, not B2) for a while and was unimpressed with its level of customization. My cloud backup costs me less than $1/month since I only have about 200 GB in the cloud. B2 is very simple: 0.5¢/GB/month for storage, and 1.0¢/GB for downloads. Some of the cloud services have complicated pricing schemes. This page on the Arq web site compares and walks through some of the options. I use Arq and back up concurrently to a local external HDD and a remote Backblaze B2 bucket.
